Hearing Aid Zinc-Air Battery Chart
Hearing aids use zinc-air cells that activate when the tab is removed. Color-coded sizes (yellow 10, orange 13, brown 312, blue 675) are not cross-compatible with watch SR cells of similar diameter.
Selection notes
- Wait 30–60 seconds after removing the tab before inserting the cell.
- Do not store activated cells in sealed containers — they need air.
- Never substitute LR/SR watch batteries unless the manufacturer explicitly allows it.
Related charts
Size 10 (PR70) zinc-air cells use a yellow tab and power the smallest in-the-ear hearing aids at roughly 5.8 × 3.6 mm.
Size 13 (PR48) is a common behind-the-ear hearing-aid cell with an orange tab — larger capacity than size 10.
Size 312 (PR41) zinc-air cells use a brown tab. They share roughly 7.9 mm diameter with size 13 but are thinner at 3.6 mm.
Size 675 (PR44) is the high-capacity blue-tab zinc-air cell. It shares the 11.6 × 5.4 mm outline with LR44 but is not an LR44 replacement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did my hearing aid die hours after a new battery?
Zinc-air cells start discharging once the seal tab is removed. Always peel the tab only when you are ready to use the cell.
